The new era of search engine algorithms? My opinion

Today, let’s discuss something simple: the final form of search engine algorithms.

While I was showering today, I started thinking: could search engines change into something that acts like a human with its own taste?

What if, when you ask it something, it answers like a close friend, giving you suggestions based on what it thinks you’d like? This idea might not be new, but it’s still fun to think about. Let’s have a brainstrom.

The Intersection of Search Engines and Social Media

Resently, I noticed something while using Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok). Once I stop watching this video and turned to the search bar, I always find keywords relate to the last video.

It might be a meme or the main character from the video. But we all know that the goal is clear: keep you hooked as long as possible. But honestly, this isn’t the best way to track the audiences.

When you search for something, the platform also suggests similar things.

This keeps you in a “bubble” of information. You stop looking for new things and just dive deeper into what you already know. Over time, people outside this bubble might not understand your interests. That’s a problem.

What Kind of Search Algorithm Would Be Truly Human-Centered?

Another idea is that search engines could act like a wise friend. It wouldn’t just show you things you like now, but would get to know your personality.

Based on that, it would suggest things that might help you grow. For example, it could guide you to visit beautiful places in nature or meet people who share your interests. If that happens, search engines would change the way we interact with them.

Let’s go back to the main idea: a search engine that understands us. Google ues Large Language Models to make AI smarter. This helps the system rate content in a more human-like way.

The ranking system is slowly moving away from using only keywords and links. We’re facing a new era. More and more contentful articles are visible dispite of the non-human ranking system.

Content creators might be not happy for what they’ve created just for the algorithms. But in the future, that might not happen.

Will Search Engine Algorithms Change Us?

As search engines get better, they will also affect us, the users and creators. We can’t avoid this.

As creators learn how to match their content with new ranking systems, their work will change. What’s more, the contents are definitely shaping our live style.

If we’re always watching the emotional or dramatic content, it could change how we act. For example, someone who is calm and quiet could become more angry or upset.

In Conclusion

These are just my thoughts on where search engine algorithms might go in the future. They may not be perfect, but they come from my experiences with different platforms. Let’s see how search engines keep changing!
